For most gardens, July is the height of flowering, when colourful summer flowers and climbing plants bloom. Some of the fruits and vegetables you've produced at home are ready for the table while hanging baskets and containers are blossoming and in full swing.
The time is now to complete all of the small maintenance tasks that will keep your garden looking beautiful and in top condition. By ensuring your plants are well-watered and routinely deadheaded, you can invite wildlife to visit and preen them.
We've created a helpful checklist of things to do in your garden during July if you don't know where to start.
July Jobs
Keep feeding your plants. in particular, your vegetable and fruit garden.
Keep an eye on the weather, if it hasn't rained then water your garden at night. Watering smaller pots, baskets, and planters twice a day may be necessary. Do not water the plants, but the soil.
Deadheading flowering plants, such as roses and bedding plants, will promote and extend flowering.
Planters and hanging baskets should be cut back, to help maintain their appearance by giving them fresh flowers and leaves.
With their rapid growth and requirement for support, train and secure your climbers with plant ties.
Maintain the appearance of your lawn by feeding it to encourage new growth if you did not feed it in the spring. Use a suitable weed killer to eradicate weeds.
